TDL conducted an Environmental and Social review of the operations of the 60-bed, state of the art healthcare project. The review involved identifying environmental and social risks and liabilities associated with the project and ensuring the project’s compliance with both national laws and international best practices.
TDL conducted an ESG Materiality Assessments and Stakeholders’ Survey for NASCON to access the core business activities for the stakeholders’ group across its operational sites. TDL was subcontracted by Henry Camp Consults to review the land acquisition and compensation payment process for the ANOH Gas project to verify the land acquisition process in compliance to IFC Performance Standard 5 (IFC PS5).
TDL team was asked to ensure all surveys conducted are in line with IFC 5, local and international laws. The team also developed Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEMP) to map and manage stakeholders, which also details methodologies and approach to engagements.
The project was an intervention to create sustainable income transformation and food security for large numbers of farmers in the Northern region of Ghana by providing them with reliable access to the complete set of goods and services required to produce and market grains profitably, including infrastructure, inputs, markets and farming expertise.
TDL team in Ghana conducted a social performance review of the project with regards to compliance with international best practices such as IFC Performance Standard 5 (IFC PS5) and World Bank Environmental and Social Safeguards and how identified gaps can be plugged during implementation of the RAP and ALP (Alternative Livelihood Programme).

The construction of the Ganjuwa Solar Project, a 100 MW solar facility on 200 hectares of land in Zongoro Village, Ganjuwa LGA in Bauchi State. The project objective was to prepare a RAP for the resettlement of people occupying the project site.
TDL team developed a socioeconomic baseline report and a Socio Impact Assessment report (SIA). On this project, TDL also created a GIS Geodatabase to identify land owners and the geographic location of their parcels of land. TDL also developed an MSEP for the project.

Large scale industrial agriculture project with community and outgrowers cooperative programme The Mount Coffee Hydro Power Plant (MCHPP) Project – Liberia Compact was aimed at encouraging economic growth and reducing poverty in Liberia by focusing on the inadequate road infrastructure and access to reliable and affordable electricity in the country.
TDL Lead consultant assignment on this project was to review the Social Impacts and Social Management Plans for the rehabilitation of the Mount Coffee Hydro Power Plant and across the Liberia compact Road Network, spanning180Km of community access roads around major cities across the country.
TDL conducted an audit of the land acquisition, valuation and compensation process for the 54km NGC pipeline RoW in Ibeju LGA, Lagos. As well as desk reviews, field study, data analysis and preparation of the audit report in line with national standards and applicable industry good practices.
The Bagamoyo agro-energy project located on the Western part of the former Razaba Ranch was the first in the development of agro-energy projects in Tanzania. In Razaba, an estimated area of up to 7800 ha was planted with sugar cane.
TDL’s Lead Consultant worked as Deputy Project Director, RAP. He facilitated a bespoke stakeholder management strategy for the project being a joint venture between the client and the Government of Tanzania. Led extensive engagements with government at several levels, being the pioneer project to launch the Government of Tanzania Land for Equity Programme. Managed teams of multidisciplinary consultants, field officers and government officials conducting the census, stakeholder engagement, asset inventory and mitigation planning.
Land negotiation and acquisition for power development project in Northern Nigeria. Assignment involved community engagements and livelihoods restoration planning towards ensuring a win-win for both the investors and community stakeholders.

The team also developed a livelihood improvement strategy, Multiple Stakeholder Engagement(MSEP) framework and mapped out grazing routes affected by the project to avoid future conflict with herdsmen.

TDL Lead Consultant was responsible for all in-country activities in monitoring the performance of an existing resettlement plan conducted by the client while consulting widely and planning further resettlements due to project expansion. He also developed stakeholder engagement plan; designed and managed the monitoring and evaluation of project framework; engaged with several stakeholders; developed grievances redress mechanism (GRM) and ensured project-wide compliance to AfDB standards and IFC PS (2006).
The project involved an investigation exercise into the grievances and allegations raised against Okomu Oil Palm Company from International media and NGOs on the company’s operations in the host communities. TDL engaged with members of the twenty-two communities that are host communities to Okomu Oil Refinery company to substantiate the claims with evidence and provide attendant recommendations based on the findings in the project area.
The assignment involved an assessment of the environmental and social performance of SIAT subsidiaries in Nigeria and Ghana as well as an investigation of the complaints made against the SIAT subsidiaries. This assignment involved engagement with 56 communities in Edo and Rivers States, Nigeria and Eastern Region, Ghana. It also involved community inspection, site inspection and engagement with various categories of staff (management, Senior, Junior, Contract, field, etc.) of the SIAT NV subsidiaries.
The assignment involved the update of the existing Community Development Plan for communities in Ibeju-Lekki that were hosts to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical (DPRPFZE) and Dangote Fertilizer Limited (DFL) to understand their socio-economic conditions, grievances and community needs. TDL employed methods such as CEM, KII and Gender-segregated FGDs to engage of all 15 communities to assess their prevailing conditions and assess their needs. A prioritization and Ranking exercise was also carried out to allow the communities to prioritize their needs. This culminated in the development of a Community Development Plan and a Social Monitoring plan
The Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) is a World Bank sponsored five-year (5) project, that will support Kaduna State to improve secondary education opportunities among girls and to achieve its objectives through targeted assistance following the key project principles expected to commence in 2021 and run till 2025. TDL is currently undertaking a monitoring and evaluation exercise for all the components of the AGILE project in 18 local Government Areas of the State
The project involve the development of a new single-track, standard-gauge railway with 15 stations that will run from Kano in northern Nigeria to Maradi in the south of Niger. The project also included the development of a branch line with 5 stations to connect the new railway to Dutse in Jigawa State. TDL undertook the resettlement planning for the 314 km railway line from Kano in Nigeria to Maradi in Niger Republic and the 93km branch line from Kano to Dutse.
Africa Nature Investors (ANI) engaged the services of TDL to support them in the resettlement and livelihood restoration activities for the communities within the Gashaka Gumti park and around the buffer zone. The project involved:

• Resettlement Option Negotiation.
The project involves the construction of a 220KV along 144KM Right of Way from Geita to Nyakanazi in Kagera. TDL identified the affected communities and level of impact the project will have on the people and their livelihood. TDL also carried out qualitative and quantitative survey of affected communities, Stakeholder Engagement with members of affected communities, government agencies and other stakeholders, Asset inventory, GIS Studies, and Socio- economic Baseline Studies.
An Environmental and Social Impact Analysis (EIA) of FASL and Maersk’s operations was required to ensure the project is bankable and in line with international best practices comparable to IFC Performance Standards (IFC PS), Equator Principles and IMO 2020. TDL conducted a detailed review of all project E&S components of the project in line with international best practices such as the IFC Performance Standards, Equator principles, World bank EHS, IMO 2020 and other shipping good international industry practices. The project also involved stakeholder engagement sessions with key project stakeholders. In addition, TDL developed a bespoke Environmental and Social Action Plan for the project.

Funding objectives are to develop customized fertilizer solutions in accordance with local conditions and crops needs of every African countries. TDL was contracted to investigate the Land Acquisition Processes review the project in line with IFC Performance Standards and recommend practical solutions towards improving and restoring the livelihoods of affected persons.

The assessment involved collection of data with quantitative survey and triangulating the survey to generate a detailed report and recommendations in compliance to the national and international laws
The project is a $75 million IFC investment cutting across 3 countries in Africa; Nigeria, Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire. Funding objectives are to develop customized fertilizer solutions in accordance with local conditions and crops needs of every African countries. TDL in conjunction with IBIS carried out a detailed Environment and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) for OCP fertilizer Plants by conducting a document review, site visits and made recommendations to fill the gaps identified as an integral part of the report.
The project involve the construction of a 12,000 barrels per day Modular Refinery in Obunagha Community, Gbaran clan, Yenegoa in Bayelsa State to meet the increasing demands for refined petroleum in Africa. TDL conducted an in-depth review of Azikel Petroleum’s E&S components of the project in line with local regulations, IFC performance Standards and other international best practices. TDL carried out site visits for ground-truth findings and to engage staff of the company and community stakeholders. TDL also developed an Environmental and Social Action Plan to manage identified project risks and impacts.

The project aims to support the development and implementation of the KADIMP, building upon the Nigeria National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (National Planning Commission, 2014). The KADIMP covers the key infrastructure areas and grouped into Economic Infrastructure (Transport, Energy, ICT, Water and Sanitation, Agriculture & Mining, and Housing); and Social Infrastructure (Health and Education). TDL conducted a process review of the draft Kaduna State Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) to meet international requirements. The report was reviewed and scaled up to contain all Kaduna state’s relevant environmental and social provisions and requirements to aid the ease of doing business for intending investors.
Africa Nature Investors (ANI) engaged the services of Translantic Development Limited (TDL) to conduct an initial resettlement negotiation with two (2) communities – Mayo Selbe and Mayo Sabere – as resettlement host communities for the eight (8) enclave communities that have been identified as directly affected by developments of the national park and thus need to be resettled.

TDL developed a sustainability report for Dangote Group. The project involved Desk review, Site visit, Materiality Assessments, Data Analysis and Reporting in compliance to the local and national laws.
TDL conducted full resettlement study for the main project footprint and the 38KM Right of Way from the project site to the nearest sub-station.
TDL performed for the client, Quieroz Galvao, ESHIA Upgrade to IFC standards, Livelihood Restoration Planning, Multiple Stakeholder Engagement, GIS Land Parcel Surveys, Asset Inventory & Valuation, Socioeconomic Surveys, and Vulnerability Study). A full-scope IFC- complaint livelihood restoration study for the Tamale Airport Phase II Expansion Project. TDL also executed the in-country follow up negotiations with the identified key stakeholders to ensure agreement, in principle, for all proposed compensation packages up to the disclosure and stakeholders’ sign –off.
TDL team conducted the ESG and compliance monitoring audit of Beloxxi Industry Limited through desk reviews, E&S assessment and audit of the factory and operational procedures, staff and workers engagement, observation etc. The compliance monitoring detailed the status and observance of the company to the environmental, social and governance provisions of relevant and applicable international, national and local safeguards.
TDL team partnered with the Edo Government and Amaya Capital to upgrade the BEP Resettlement Action Plan to meet lenders’ requirement and in compliance with the local and national laws.
TDL team conducted this ESDD to identify any E&S concerns, by undertaking document reviews, stakeholder interviews and site visits, that may be related to the Project. Less than 50% of Nigerians have access to electricity and actual electricity demand in Nigeria is estimated at 10,000 MW, leaving approximately 100 million people in Nigeria without access to electricity; and forcing them to use unsustainable power solutions.
